Death of Peter C. Glover – ‘Wires from the Bunker’

PCGlover
Peter C Glover

Had some very sad news the other evening. My friend Peter C. Glover died on Saturday 7th June 2014. I was humbled by the invite to the funeral. I would have liked to, but I was unable to attend yesterday (23/06/2014). As yet I have heard nothing about the funeral and there seems to no mention anywhere of Peter’s passing into the presence of his Saviour.

So I’ll mention it. I trust nothing here will be upsetting to the family – I would simply like to post a brief eulogy.

Peter was a great encouragement to me and it was him that initially got me into Blogging. Without him I probably wouldn’t have bothered. And it was his encouragement that has kept me Blogging.

Sadly he never got to completely launch his new Website ‘Peter C. Glover’s British Intelligence’.  Originally his site was ‘Peter C. Glover’s Wires from the Bunker’ changing simply to ‘Peter C. Glover Wires’. (See link to the right under News Related)

He lamented the lack of a Fox News type broadcast here in the UK and the left-wing bias that is so prevalent. Just recently Brietbart launched in the UK. On his website back in March Peter wrote:

…the UK finally has an online conservative news site where it is possible to “tell it like it is” with unadorned conservative ‘knobs on’

Peter certainly ‘told it like it is’ and ‘with knobs on’. Peter was a Christian & Churchman. He was Reformed and Confessional in his theology and attempted briefly with Nick Needham (not sure if there were others involved) to launch a UK equivalent version of ‘The Alliance of Confessing Evangelicals‘. Sadly it was not to be. They also started a UK magazine that lasted for I think 16 issues – The Christian Research Journal (I think – I have them filed away). It was a good magazine I thought and a shame it ended. The magazine also collaborated with Alan Howe & Chris Hand. He was involved with the Evangelical Library in London as it was. I suspect the following days will show just how many pies Peter had his hand in. Some only know him for his (opposing) views on Wind Farms and other daft ideas but there was so much more to him than that. He was an author and well into politics informed by his Reformed theology. He will be missed. I will miss him.

So I say ‘thank you Lord for Peter C. Glover’. We continue to pray for his wife in these days. May she know the peace and comfort of her God at this difficult time.

He came and did a lecture for us in 2006: ‘Francis Schaeffer Revisited’. Available: http://www.churchaudio.org.uk/roche/REFC%20History/2006%20Frances%20Schaeffer%20-%20Peter%20Glover.mp3

There’s a brief bio on his pre-launch ‘British Intelligence’ website: http://www.petercglover.com/bio/

I would like to think there will be an obituary for him in Evangelical Times.

What a confused world we live in. For some anyway. The majority of the Western world are not confused about genders but are dragged (mostly apathetically) into a world of relativism. Read the article. See the related article by Brendan O’Neil below.

BBC News – David Cameron speaks of Christian faith in Easter message

BBC News – David Cameron speaks of Christian faith in Easter message.

David’s Message embedded below for your education – not edification.

What a good fellow David is to share his message of Easter with the Nation. I say his message because it isn’t the message of the Bible. The message of Easter is about Jesus the Son of God coming into the world to bleed and die in the place of sinners. The message of the Gospel is to Repent & Believe the Gospel. It’s good that people are neighbourly and help one another, but being neighbourly doesn’t make anyone a Christian – this is implied is his Easter message. One way to distinguish between true & false is not what’s said, but what is not said. The Bible is very plain – and honest – in telling sinners (that’s all of us) that without The Saviour (there is only one) we are lost and undone and will end up in hell.

There’s a lot more to it, but for now please notice, there are two very exclusive aspects to the Christian message. 1. We are all sinners, no exceptions, all of us are guilty before a Holy & Righteous God and deserving of being cast into hell. 2. Jesus is the ONLY Saviour and the ONLY way to be right with God. This is contrary to Islam and EVERY other faith. To say otherwise, as David does, is to deceive and to be dishonest. I have to tell you the truth. The sad truth is David Cameron may well be deceived himself. Before you can have the peace of God, you, me, all of us need Peace with God. (Romans 5:1-2) That Peace is only obtained by the Grace of God through Jesus Christ and NO other way. Now if he were to share that…

If we could save ourselves or were good enough to enter heaven – why did Jesus have to die? Like the rest of us then, David needs to Repent & Believe the Gospel. (Mark 1:14-15).

Street Preacher arrested again.

The following is the full text from the Christian Concern website

Tony Miano, US preacher and a former Los Angeles Deputy Sheriff

Police in Scotland have arrested a Christian street evangelist after a woman complained that he had spoken about sexual sin.

Tony Miano, a US preacher and a former Los Angeles Deputy Sheriff, was arrested yesterday (8th January) and remanded in custody to appear before Dundee Sheriff Court at 10am today.

He was part of a street preaching team holding a week-long mission in Scotland.
He was the second of the street pastors to address lunchtime shoppers in Dundee High Street. He talked about the nature of sin; about the different sins that Jesus had come to save people from when a woman began to shout at him. He was preaching about sin in general and when he mentioned sexual sin including adultery, promiscuity and homosexual practice, the woman shouted that her son was gay.

Mr. Miano’s colleague, Pastor Josh Williamson of the Craigie Reformed Baptist Church in Perth, who was present at the incident explains: “Tony wasn’t focussing just on homosexual practice – it was about all sin. A woman was yelling at him and her friend noticed we were filming the preaching, so she ran up to me and tried to smash my camera.”
He says the first woman then appeared to be calling the police on her mobile just as a council warden came along and said that while we were doing nothing wrong, and had the right to free speech, we should move on.

Mr. Miano finished his preaching in a few minutes and as the street preachers packed up two police officers arrived. At this point Pastor Williamson says the women shouted that they would get the preachers arrested.

“The female officer saw we had a camera and lunged for it and then the male policeman grabbed it and threw it in the police van,” says Pastor Williamson.

He says the male officer interviewed the women and then immediately arrested Mr. Miano, but did not question him or explain why he was being arrested.

“After Tony was put in the police van I asked why he was being arrested and was told it was for a breach of the peace and for using homophobic language,” says Josh Williamson.

Comment from Andrea Minichiello Williams

Andrea Minichiello Williams, Chief Executive of the Christian Legal Centre, says the incident raises serious questions about police procedure and understanding of the law in dealing with such incidents.

“This appears to be an overzealous reaction by the police. The incident, adds to the number of arrests of Christian street evangelists for preaching from the Bible. It is indicative of the suppression of the freedom to speak  and live out the words of Jesus Christ in public and present the teachings of the Bible,” says Andrea.

She adds that the Christian Legal Centre is ready to serve anyone who is challenged for expressing their Christian beliefs.

“At the Christian Legal Centre we are committed to helping people to continue to preach the Gospel in our nation.”

Tony Miano was arrested in July last year, in London, for alleged ‘homophobic’ comments. The case was dropped.

He has been remanded in custody to appear before Dundee Sheriff’s Court today (9th January) at 10am

Welcome to the New Site

If by an extraordinary act of serendipity you have landed on this page – Welcome. And if you followed the link from my old WordPress site, you are also Welcome. Last but not least, if you came here via a WordPress redirect you are also welcome – especially as I had to pay for the redirect. 🙂

It’s not quite finished, but if I didn’t make the plunge soon I’d never get round to it.  I will continue to tweek, counter tweek and then re-tweek until I’m happy with the layout. That’s not going to be for a little while as I also need to re-do the Blog roll and other links – but one step at a time.

I’ll be trying a few things out but do let me know what you think.

Thanks for visiting.

BBC News – Religious groups ‘preaching’ in schools, claims report

Here’s a news story (BBC Link below) to illustrate the bias existing in the UK. There is no such thing as ‘Neutrality’ – it’s a myth.

The National Secular Society (NSS) bemoans Christians going into schools but the default they conveniently neglect to mention is that Atheism is more often than not already assumed in the classroom. What they don’t like is their own view challenged. If they really were about ‘Equality’ then having Evangelical Christians going into schools to speak of their beliefs wouldn’t be a problem. And, there’s nothing to stop RE teachers inviting representatives of other faiths to present their beliefs. In fact, I would encourage it.

As regards Creationism – they can’t even explain how something can come from nothing (that’s no pre-existent matter). Christians do have an answer. They might not like it but they have to keep the faith of Atheism come what may. Mind you, the report will be a good attempt at getting something out of nothing!

Costa Concordia salvage operation begins

Members of the US salvage company Titan and Italian firm Micoperi work at the wreck of Italy's Costa Concordia cruise ship near the harbour of Giglio PortoCosta Concordia salvage operation begins

This story on the BBC is typical of a news event used to illustrate spiritual truth. This particular story jumped out as an excellent illustration of salvation.

Here’s a number of points to how it might be used:

1. A disaster has taken place. A great verse that speaks to this – and works very well here – is this one: ‘See, this alone I found, that God made man upright, but they have sought out many schemes‘. Ecclesiastes 7:29 (ESV). In other words, man is no longer upright. He has been brought down. Such a mighty glorious vessel now lies helpless on its side. And if memory serves well, the blame was laid squarely on  the shoulders of the Captain. The Captain was responsible not the crew or the passengers. The Captain tried to divert blame to someone else but he was found out. At least 30 passengers died when the ship capsized.

2. It needs to be made upright again. For the ship to be made upright it needs help. But it can’t do it, it can’t make itself upright. Help needs to come from outside. In the case of the Concordia there’s going be steel cables attached and host of other engineering equipment needed to bring the ship back to its upright position. It needs salvaging, it needs a rescuer. It needs saving. We need to be made upright and we can’t do it. We can’t help, we cannot contribute, we are helpless.

3. A Rescuer has come. To make the Concodia upright is described as follows: ‘One of the largest and most daunting salvage operations ever undertaken is under way with an attempt to pull the shipwrecked Costa Concordia upright’. I’d disagree with that. The redemption, the rescue of man out of sin is the ‘most daunting salvage operation ever undertaken’. Never was there such a rescue required as the rescue of a sinner.

4. There’s already a hefty price tag, and it’s not over yet. At the end of the report we read, ‘The salvage project has so far cost more than 600m euros ($800m; £500m) and is expected to cost a lot more before the operation is complete’. The planning, the resources and the cost for such an operation is huge. But this is nothing compared to the rescue of a sinner. The salvation of a sinner cost the death of Jesus on the cross. And to get a true perspective of the cost it’s necessary to take some time out and consider just who Jesus is and what it cost to leave heaven, take on the form of a servant and then die.

5. It will be re-floated. It will rise again. As with all illustrations, it’s not perfect. But the following – and final – quote from the news story can be read two ways: ‘Our correspondent says that only after the ship is back up on her keel will it be possible to inspect it fully and begin to plan the next stage – the effort to repair and re-float it – and eventually tow it away to be destroyed.’ Those that have trusted in Christ will rise in Christ to be gloriously re-floated and restored, not just to a former glory but to a greater glory.

Where He displays His healing power,
Death and the curse are known no more:
In Him the tribes of Adam boast
More blessings than their father lost.

But for those that have rejected Christ and spurned His cross and His Salvation; they will also be re-floated only to be towed away and destroyed. And lest as a Christ rejecting sinner you should think destruction a good thing – when you’re dead you’re dead – the Bible never speaks of destruction as an end of being, but as a loss of well-being, only to at the last be cast into hell for all eternity to endure the ultimate loss of conscious well-being.

There’s loads more in this story, but the message is clear, Seek Christ and His Salvation as the ONLY Saviour and rescuer of sinners.

Cranmer: Syria’s al-Qaeda freedom fighters invade Christian village

Cranmer: Syria’s al-Qaeda freedom fighters invade Christian village.

Follow the above for Archbishop Cranmer’s Blog post. Once again this story like most others involving Christian persecution will probably go unnoticed. Cranmer’s concluding paragraphs are:

Under the protection of the mystical Shi’a-Alawites, Syria’s ethnic and religious minorities have been relatively free to live and worship. This will not be the case under the Sunni-Wahhabis (my emphasis). We know that Assad has stockpiles of chemical weapons. He may have used them, but it is by no means certain that he has. What is certain is that the ‘rebels’ which the US and France are about to assist are itching to get their righteous hands upon them (my emphasis). Syria’s nuns do not want to be bombed: a group have written

The Pope has spoken up, patriarchs and bishops have spoken up, numberless witnesses have spoken up, analysts and people of experience have spoken up, even the opponents of the regime have spoken up…. Yet here we all are, waiting for just one word from the great Obama? And if it weren’t him, it would be someone else. It isn’t he who is “the great one,” it is the Evil One who these days is really acting up.

If the US and France assist Syria’s ‘rebels’, Maloula’s nuns and all those who shelter in its convent will eventually be gassed to death in Al-Qaeda’s final solution (my comment: with help of President Obama). Their equation for salvation is simple: Christians + Sarin = Allahu Akbar.
